About the position

The Senior SQL Developer at the Department of Human Services (DHS) is responsible for analyzing data and developing solutions that enhance the organization's data management capabilities. This role involves working closely with experienced leads and business resources to design, implement, and maintain various systems, ensuring high-quality data solutions are delivered effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement complex SQL queries and PL/SQL objects.
  • Perform database and SQL performance tuning.
  • Utilize data modeling and visualization tools to present data effectively.
  • Implement ETL practices for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and debug coding errors.
  • Document system architecture using Unified Modeling Language (UML).
  • Develop and maintain database-driven reporting initiatives.
  • Ensure data validation, quality assurance, and referential integrity.
  • Work with code repositories and continuous integration tools.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with Oracle databases.
  • Proficient in writing complex SQL queries and developing PL/SQL objects.
  • Strong experience in database and SQL performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with data modeling and visualization tools, preferably Tableau or Power BI.
  • Working knowledge of ETL practices, preferably with Informatica or Pentaho.
  • Excellent understanding of database management systems (DBMS).
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills with complex DML.
  • Expert level SQL querying and database manipulation with large data sets.
  • Ability to creatively solve complex problems and anticipate software issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of Integrated Eligibility experience, particularly with SNAP/TANF/Medicaid.
  • Experience developing reports for federal agencies.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Workflow Management Tools such as JIRA and ServiceNow.
  • Advanced understanding of data visualization technologies like Tableau.
  • Oracle certification(s) are a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum, XP, and Kanban.
  • Experience in web development using XML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks.
