About the position

The Data Systems Engineer Intern position at OUC is designed for students pursuing degrees in engineering or technology fields. The intern will support a six-sigma process improvement project, focusing on identifying inefficiencies in the current reporting infrastructure and proposing transformation plans. This role offers hands-on experience in data systems engineering within a municipal utility context, emphasizing process mapping, documentation, and automation opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Support the six-sigma process improvement project.
• Identify process, waste, and quality impacting elements in current reporting infrastructure.
• Map and document current processes and diagnose performance issues.
• Propose best practices and automation opportunities for validation and verification steps.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program.
• Academic status of Junior or above.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, with 3.3 preferred.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to commit to a full-time schedule between May 19, 2025, and August 15, 2025.
• Knowledge of SQL and/or Python.
• Foundation in systems or software architecture.
• Ability to read and write SQL queries and understand relational databases.
• Understanding of ETL concepts.
• Knowledge of automation tools and techniques.
• Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting data using statistical tools.
• Strong analytical skills to identify root causes and develop solutions.
• Experience in managing projects, including planning, executing, and monitoring.
• Eagerness to learn and apply best practices for process improvement.
• Ability to conduct thorough research and gather relevant information.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
