About the position

As a Data Visualization Developer at USAA, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the data and analytics capabilities of the organization's technical operational infrastructure. This mid-level position involves working with the Shared Services and Infrastructure Insights team to support analytical efforts across various operational areas, including database management, cloud services, and network infrastructure. Your contributions will help create insights and improve decision-making processes, ultimately facilitating the financial security of U.S. military members and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct full life cycle of data engineering including analysis, solution design, data pipeline engineering, testing, deployment, scheduling, and production support.
  • Design and implement complex technical solutions for data engineering and analytic systems.
  • Identify and solve significant technical problems and architecture deficiencies.
  • Collaborate on design reviews and provide feedback on trends and recommendations for solutions.
  • Break down business features into technical stories and approaches.
  • Influence stakeholders in technical adoption for best solutions.
  • Create proof of concepts and prototypes for complex initiatives.
  • Collaborate with team members on new technologies and plan complex assignments.
  • On-board entry level engineers and mentor junior engineers.
  • Acquire data from multiple sources and maintain databases, data warehouses, and data lakes.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce data development tools and standards.
  • Conduct regular code reviews to improve quality and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 years of data engineering, data analysis, or software development experience implementing data solutions, with at least 1 year in data engineering or management.
  • Extensive knowledge and working experience in SQL and Relational Databases.
  • Understanding of Agile methodology practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in working with Cloud technologies and tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intermediate to advanced analytics development capabilities leveraging reporting tools (Tableau, ServiceNow, etc.).
  • Experience with infrastructure datasets and ability to master diverse subject matter quickly.
  • Experience creating efficient queries for data visualizations using data prep tools like Dremio.
  • Applying data visualization best practices to identify trends or patterns.
  • Experience working with end users to capture business requirements.
