About the position

The Data Visualization Engineer will be an integral part of an established team dedicated to creating impactful dashboards that facilitate informed decision-making for our customers. This role involves not only the development of these dashboards but also the continuous learning of new tools and information domains as required. The engineer will be expected to engage with complex data visualization needs, ensuring that the solutions provided are both innovative and effective in meeting the client's requirements. In this position, the engineer will leverage their technical expertise to analyze and visualize data, transforming it into meaningful insights. The role requires a strong foundation in data visualization technologies, particularly PowerBI, Qlik Sense, or Tableau, with a preference for Qlik Sense. The engineer will also need to possess a solid understanding of SQL and experience working with large, complex datasets. Communication skills are paramount, as the engineer will collaborate with both technical staff and clients to define requirements and document visualization artifacts. The Data Visualization Engineer will also be involved in software development programs, contributing to the overall success of projects by providing data-driven insights. The ability to learn new tools quickly and work collaboratively with program staff and customers is essential for reaching design decisions within the constraints of the project. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on mission-critical projects for the federal government, contributing to the advancement of technology services and solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Create meaningful dashboards that support customer decision-making.
  • Learn new tools and information domains as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members to define requirements and document visualization artifacts.
  • Analyze and visualize data to provide insights.
  • Engage with complex data visualization needs on software development programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3+ years developing dashboards using data visualization technologies, such as PowerBI, Qlik Sense, or Tableau (Qlik Sense is highly preferred).
  • 5+ years of overall technical experience, including analysis or development roles with databases, data integration, data mining, and big data.
  • Strong SQL experience on large complex datasets.
  • Experience using Excel charts and graphs.
  • Good communication skills, particularly in requirements definition and documentation of visualization artifacts.
  • Ability to learn new tools quickly to provide innovative solutions.
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively with program staff and customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Competence in Python, Spark, and PySpark.
  • Competence in statistics.
  • Familiarity with CSV and JSON data formats.
  • Experience working with federal government clients.
  • Experience with ETL and business intelligence tools (Informatica).
  • Experience with AWS cloud services.
