About the position

The Data Visualization Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting our customer's decision-making processes by creating meaningful dashboards. This position requires collaboration with an established team and involves learning new tools and information domains as necessary. The engineer will be responsible for developing dashboards using various data visualization technologies, with a strong preference for Qlik Sense, but also including PowerBI and Tableau. The role demands a solid understanding of complex data visualization needs, particularly in a software development context. The engineer will also be expected to utilize Excel for creating charts and graphs, ensuring that the visualizations are not only functional but also effectively communicate the necessary information to stakeholders. In addition to technical skills, the Data Visualization Engineer must possess excellent communication abilities, particularly in defining requirements and documenting visualization artifacts. Strong SQL skills are essential, especially when working with large and complex datasets. The ability to learn new tools quickly is vital, as the engineer will be expected to provide innovative solutions to problems. Collaboration with program staff and customers is key to reaching design decisions within the constraints of the project. The position also emphasizes the importance of diplomacy and communication skills when interacting with both clients and technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop meaningful dashboards that support customer decision-making.
  • Collaborate with team members to understand and implement complex data visualization needs.
  • Learn and adapt to new tools and information domains as required.
  • Utilize data visualization technologies such as PowerBI, Qlik Sense, and Tableau to create dashboards.
  • Use Excel to create charts and graphs for data representation.
  • Document visualization artifacts and define requirements clearly for stakeholders.
  • Work with large complex datasets using strong SQL skills.
  • Engage with program staff and customers to reach design decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3+ years of experience developing dashboards using data visualization technologies.
  • 5+ years of overall technical experience, including analysis or development roles with databases, data integration, data mining, and big data.
  • Experience working on software development programs with complex data visualization needs.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in requirements definition and documentation.
  • Strong SQL experience on large complex datasets.
  • Ability to learn new tools quickly to provide innovative solutions.
  • Excellent diplomacy and communication skills with clients and technical staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Competence in Python, Spark, and PySpark.
  • Competence in statistics.
  • Familiarity with CSV and JSON data formats.
  • Experience working with federal government clients.
  • Experience with ETL and business intelligence tools (Informatica).
  • Experience with AWS cloud services.
