About the position

The Data Visualization Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing data visualizations and dashboards using various data sets. This role requires expertise in data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes, as well as proficiency in statistical analysis and machine learning techniques. The position is hybrid, requiring on-site work in either Birmingham, AL or Forrest Park, GA, and is part of a one-year assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop data visualizations and dashboards using data from various sources.
  • Provide visual, technical, and editorial expertise regarding visual content.
  • Utilize tools such as Power BI, Tableau, D3.js, and Plotly for advanced data visualization.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to draw meaningful conclusions from data.
  • Apply machine learning techniques for predictive modeling.
  • Transform and structure datasets for effective analytic storytelling.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure self-sufficiency in data handling.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of data visualizations.
  • Create dynamic and interactive visualizations using React.js, Power BI, and Tableau.
  • Design and develop geospatial analytics using tools like Carto, MapBox, or ArcGis Online.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in similar roles.
  • Experience in designing and developing data visualizations and dashboards.
  • Proficiency in data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
  • Skilled in statistical analysis and hypothesis testing.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, D3.js, Plotly, and React.js for data visualization.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data querying and transformation.
  • Strong grasp of UX/UI design principles for data visualization.
  • Understanding of medallion architecture for data structuring.
  • Familiarity with Azure services and cloud-based data movement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in geospatial analytics using visualization tools like Carto, MapBox, or ArcGis Online.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and data integration techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of data engineering principles.
  • Experience with metadata creation and documentation.
  • Knowledge of data security and governance practices.
  • Experience with performance tuning and optimizing data visualization solutions.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
