About the position

This position is responsible for RDBMS database management, ensuring the integrity and reliability of databases through quality control and performance tuning. The role involves monitoring and refreshing data, as well as performing installation and testing of new releases and patches. The successful candidate will be tasked with performing database administration duties across various platforms including Sybase, MySQL, Vertica, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL. This includes responsibilities such as database and client software installation, replication installation, data migration, patch management, and troubleshooting. The individual will ensure high availability of databases and monitor their performance, taking care of backup and recovery processes. Responsibilities also include database and DB object design, coding, testing, debugging, installing, and routine maintenance. The candidate will review existing code to provide enhancement suggestions aimed at improving performance and will support application development through database analysis, design data model changes, and data export/import processes. Additionally, the role requires providing technical support on SQL tuning and index design to developers, resolving database problems daily, and conducting routine maintenance and upgrades, including ad hoc disaster recovery. The candidate will also evaluate new database productions and features to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Perform Sybase/MySQL/Vertica/PostgreSQL/MS SQL database administration duties including DB, client software, replication installation, data migration, patch management, and troubleshooting.
• Ensure database high availability and monitor database performance.
• Manage backup and recovery processes for databases.
• Design, code, test, debug, install, and maintain database and DB objects.
• Review and provide enhancement suggestions to existing database code to improve performance.
• Provide application development support including database analysis, design data model changes, data export and import, data load and conversion, and old data restoration.
• Provide technical support on SQL tuning and index design to developers.
• Resolve database problems on a daily basis.
• Conduct routine database maintenance and upgrades, as well as ad hoc disaster recovery.
• Evaluate new database productions and features.

Requirements

• BA/BS in computer science engineering or equivalent fields.
• A minimum of 5 years' administrative experience with Sybase, MySQL, and Vertica database servers.
• Experience upgrading database servers.
• Experience with database migrations.
• Experience operating a single database instance of 2TB+ and managing 200+ database instances.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to solve production issues under pressure.
• Proficiency in design, administration, implementation, upgrades, monitoring, and database tuning.
• Experience administering a large enterprise database environment.
• Strong data modeling and database design skills.
• Experience with transactional databases and data warehouses.
• Proficiency with optimization techniques.
• Thorough understanding of the software development life cycle.
• Experience with data and batch loading processes.
• Experience with stored procedures, triggers, etc.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
