About the position

The Associate Principal, Database Administration role focuses on the design, implementation, and maintenance of database solutions that align with company standards and resource limits. This position requires a strong background in database administration, particularly with DB2 and PostgreSQL, and involves active participation in all phases of systems development projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and tuning database performance, ensuring optimal application performance, and managing backup and recovery processes. Additionally, the role includes providing primary on-call support for production issues, participating in disaster recovery drills, and maintaining system documentation. In this position, you will assist in the design and implementation of databases, manage database performance and disk usage, and provide consultation support in database analysis, modeling, and coding. You will also be involved in developing maintenance, backup, and recovery procedures, as well as participating in testing and evaluations of new software and software release upgrades. The role requires a proactive approach to understanding and supporting corporate data standards and recommending new database management systems (DBMS) and operational standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developing and maintaining complex applications that utilize supported database technologies. You will need to be well-versed in systems analysis and design, and have experience in multiple programming and scripting languages. This position is critical for ensuring the reliability and performance of the company's database systems, making it essential for the candidate to have a strong technical background and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of databases.
  • Manage database performance and disk usage.
  • Provide support in database access methods.
  • Offer consultation support in database analysis, modeling, coding, and production problem resolution.
  • Develop maintenance, backup, and recovery procedures and documentation.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery drills.
  • Provide primary on-call support for production problems.
  • Understand and support corporate data standards.
  • Recommend and assist with new DBMS and operational standards.
  • Participate in testing and evaluations of new software and software release upgrades.
  • Support business studies, proposal teams, and costing/feasibility studies.
  • Prepare system documentation.
  • Maintain metadata repositories.

Requirements

  • 3+ years' experience developing and maintaining complex applications that make extensive use of a supported database technology or 3+ years' experience as an associate DBA.
  • Well versed in all phases of Systems Analysis and Design.
  • Experienced in two or more programming languages and two or more scripting languages.
  • 7+ years' experience with PostgreSQL.
  • 7+ years' experience with DB2 LUW, preferably on Red Hat Linux.
  • Proficient with coding and review of SQL, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business.
