About the position

The Database Administrator 1 position is a short-term contract role based in Austin, TX, scheduled from August 1, 2024, to August 31, 2024. This role involves performing highly advanced database administration tasks, which include evaluation, review, and planning under the direction of the Section Director. The primary responsibilities include ensuring efficient and effective storage, retrieval, customization, security protocols, and archiving of data to maintain integrated database systems. The administrator will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing database policies and procedures while also maintaining and verifying data integrity. In addition to database management, the role requires participation in business analysis, process planning, and the development and implementation of agency policies and procedures. The Database Administrator will coordinate project activities and team efforts to achieve the goals and objectives of the section. This includes studying and analyzing operations and issues, preparing reports of findings and recommendations, and assisting in the preparation of administrative reports and specialized technical projects. The position also involves providing consultative services and technical assistance to plan, implement, and monitor effective programs and services. The administrator will work closely with program staff to determine trends and resolve technical issues, review and evaluate information on service delivery system methods, and identify gaps in resources to recommend improvements. The role requires the development of procedures and workflows and is characterized by minimal supervision, allowing for extensive initiative and independent judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced database administration evaluation, review, and planning under the direction of the Section Director.
  • Ensure efficient and effective storage, retrieval, customization, security protocols, and archiving of data.
  • Plan, develop, and implement database policies and procedures, maintaining and verifying data integrity.
  • Participate in business analysis, process planning, and agency policy and procedure development and implementation.
  • Coordinate projects and team activities to achieve Section goals and objectives.
  • Study and analyze operations and issues, preparing reports of findings and recommendations.
  • Assist in the preparation of administrative reports, studies, and specialized technical projects.
  • Provide consultative services and technical assistance to plan, implement, and monitor effective programs and services.
  • Work with program staff to determine trends and resolve technical issues.
  • Review and evaluate information on service delivery system methods, outputs, and activities to identify gaps in resources and recommend improvements.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in database administration.
  • Knowledge of project management practices, principles, and processes.
  • Skill in business, program, and system analysis; developing goals, objectives, and procedures to monitor and evaluate progress.
  • Experience in analyzing statistical information and translating complex technical information for non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge with the development of management/workflow reporting tools for program areas.
