About the position

The Public Utility Commission (PUC) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Database Administrator to join our Data Management and Support section of IT. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of database management systems, particularly MS SQL Server, and have experience with data analytics, machine learning, and data mining. This role involves working with databases of varying complexity, optimizing database configurations, and ensuring secure access to data. The Database Administrator will be responsible for resolving database performance and capacity issues, planning, and executing a variety of complex and challenging database projects. This position plays a key role in supporting the PUC's mission to ensure safe, reliable, and affordable public utility services for all Pennsylvanians. In this role, you will manage and maintain the PUC's databases, perform database backup and recovery exercises, and create, develop, and implement databases. You will also be involved in building data collection systems and exploring advanced data analytics, machine learning, and data mining techniques, as well as other AI-based data resources. Additionally, you will create big data repositories, data warehouses, and data marts, and implement other data solutions. Your responsibilities will also include creating data strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality. We are looking for a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The Public Utility Commission offers a friendly work environment, alternate work schedules, telework options when approved, and the possibility for free parking. The work schedule is full-time, with hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 60-minute lunch break. Telework is a potential feature of this position, subject to eligibility and approval. Candidates who do not wish to telework or are not eligible will work from the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • One year as a Database Analyst or Information Technology Generalist 2; or
  • Five years of information technology experience that includes two years in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration; or
  • Three years of information technology experience that includes two years in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration, and an associate's degree in any information technology field; or
  • One year of information technology experience in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration, and a bachelor's degree in any information technology field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
