About the position

The Office of Administration, Public Safety IT Delivery Center (PSITDC) is seeking a dedicated and innovative Database Administrator 1 to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the IT services that reach all Pennsylvanians, particularly through various government services such as the PA State Police, Department of Corrections, and other public safety organizations. As a Database Administrator, you will engage in advanced technical work across all phases of database development activities. This includes supporting the application development lifecycle, which encompasses planning, designing, developing, implementing, data migration, quality assurance, data cleanup, and data administration. In addition to development activities, your responsibilities will extend to database operations, where you will manage database administration tasks, ensure database security, and maintain availability. You will also be involved in server monitoring, performance monitoring, capacity planning, and the installation and configuration of SQL software, including Service Pack installations. This role is essential in ensuring that our databases are efficient, secure, and reliable, thereby supporting the critical functions of public safety services in Pennsylvania. Responsibilities

  • Support the application development lifecycle including planning, designing, developing, and implementing databases.
  • Conduct data migration, quality assurance, and data cleanup activities.
  • Perform database administration tasks including security management and ensuring database availability.
  • Monitor server performance and capacity planning for database systems.
  • Install and configure SQL software and manage Service Pack installations.

Requirements

  • One year as a Database Analyst or Information Technology Generalist 2; or
  • Three years of information technology experience that includes two years in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration, and an associate's degree in any information technology field; or
  • Five years of information technology experience that includes two years in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration; or
  • One year of information technology experience in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration, and a bachelor's degree in any information technology field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SQL Server and database security best practices.
  • Familiarity with data migration tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of performance tuning and optimization of database systems.
