About the position

The Database Administrator 2 at ERCOT is responsible for administering, testing, and implementing computer databases, utilizing knowledge of database management systems and storage administration. This role involves coordinating changes to databases and providing support for application installations and upgrades, ensuring the integrity and performance of the database systems in a 24/7 production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administers, tests, and implements computer databases.
  • Coordinates changes to computer databases.
  • Supports development, operations, and business teams with application installations and upgrades.
  • Installs, upgrades, maintains, monitors, optimizes, and troubleshoots production and non-production Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Performs housekeeping on defunct user accounts and historical data.
  • Develops and executes back-up and recovery procedures.
  • Audits user activity to ensure integrity and performance of the database.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively using written and verbal communication methods.
  • Works closely with development, operations, and testing teams to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
  • Performs database monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Implements and maintains multiple database environments, including logical/physical design and modeling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of job-related work experience in database management systems.
  • Minimum 2 years in Oracle Data Guard and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Minimum 2 years in Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) and/or SQL Server Backup.
  • Minimum 1 year with multi-terabyte databases and associated structures.
  • Minimum 1 year direct, hands-on experience with SQL/PLSQL or TSQL.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with database monitoring systems such as Foglight or Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP and SSAE16 compliance standards.
