About the position

The Database Administrator at Pantheon Data will be responsible for managing and maintaining Amazon RDS databases, ensuring optimal performance and security in a cloud environment. This role is crucial for the strategic migration of legacy applications to AWS GovCloud for federal clients, involving tasks such as database configuration, optimization, and operational monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Amazon RDS databases, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Configure and monitor database settings and parameters to ensure performance optimization and resource utilization.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, restoration, and database migrations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, such as performance and connectivity issues.
  • Collaborate with software developers and system administrators to design and implement database solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Implement and maintain database security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data.
  • Stay current with the latest database technologies and best practices.
  • Provide recommendations on improvements to our database infrastructure to the team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience performing database administration and IT systems support.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator managing MS SQL databases.
  • In-depth knowledge of Amazon RDS database engines for at least one of the following: MS SQL, PostgreSQL, DB2, and Oracle.
  • Experience with database design, configuration, performance tuning, security management, and backup and recovery.
  • Experience with AWS cloud migrations, tools, and services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex, multi-disciplinary security challenges in cloud environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS Certified Database - Specialty certification
  • Deep knowledge of database automation and scripting tools, such as PowerShell/Python.
  • Experience using database design, monitoring, and performance tuning tools
  • Experience supporting DoD and/or federal government clients.
