About the position

Oldcastle Infrastructure, a CRH company, is seeking a Database Administrator to join our team in Atlanta, GA. This role is pivotal in our IT transformation journey, aimed at enhancing operational support systems and processes across a diverse portfolio. As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for identifying and implementing improvements that optimize the value chain, ensuring operational stability, security, and availability of our database systems. You will work closely with developers, system analysts, engineers, and functional managers to maintain high standards of database management and adhere to organizational controls and best practices. In this exciting position, you will design, implement, and maintain database solutions that align with company standards and industry best practices. You will take the lead in identifying root causes of issues, driving actions to prevent recurrence, and focusing on higher-value opportunities. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the planning, execution, and success of complex database projects, supporting the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) from inception to production support. You will also implement and enhance backup and recovery strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring that our database systems are robust and reliable. Additionally, you will proactively monitor all database systems to maximize availability and minimize downtime. You will create and maintain documentation on standards, procedures, and processes, facilitating continuous improvement through innovation and adherence to industry best practices. Your role will involve liaising with vendors, customers, and other IT personnel to triage problem resolutions and coordinate dependencies across multiple projects. Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain database solutions adhering to company standards and industry best practices.
  • Identify root causes of issues and drive actions to avoid recurrence, focusing on higher value opportunities.
  • Plan, execute, and ensure the success of complex database projects throughout the full SDLC.
  • Implement, maintain, and enhance backup/recovery strategies, High Availability (HA), and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Lead efforts for performance tuning, simplified administration, and continuous availability of database systems.
  • Oversee security, compliance, and audit efforts related to database management.
  • Proactively monitor all database systems to maximize availability and minimize downtime/performance degradation.
  • Create and maintain documentation on standards, procedures, and processes for database management.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement through innovation and adherence to industry best practices.
  • Liaise with vendors, customers, and IT personnel for problem resolution and new initiatives.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience with operational database administration on MS SQL Server.
  • 7+ years of experience with SQL Server versions 2008/2012/2014/2016/2017/2019/2022.
  • 7+ years of experience writing complex SQL (stored procedures, triggers, agent jobs, maintenance scripts, etc.).
  • Comprehensive understanding of SQL Server features and their application in various scenarios.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving database problems across diverse technologies and applications.
  • Experience with backups, restores, and various recovery models and strategies.
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) using native monitoring and custom scripts.
  • Proven ability to manage databases larger than 10TB with tables containing over 1 billion rows.
  • Experience migrating multi-terabyte SQL Server databases with minimal downtime.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server wait types, query options, execution plans, and index management.
  • Experience with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MS SQL Server.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SQL Server 2019 and beyond.
  • Familiarity with other databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Snowflake data warehouses and ETL tools like Informatica and SSIS.
  • Experience with cloud-based ETL tools such as Fivetran and Data Factory.
  • Experience migrating on-premises databases to the cloud and managing DB instances in AWS and Azure.
