About the position

The Database Administrator (DBA) at HSP Direct is responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of databases within the organization. This role involves planning, designing, developing, and integrating databases into the overall data ecosystem, while also troubleshooting issues for users. The DBA will work with both structured and unstructured data, particularly within Azure environments, and will play a key role in maintaining high availability and security of data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of SQL, structured, and unstructured data within the HSP technology stack currently Azure.
  • Install, configure, and maintain database systems including SQL Server, Azure SQL, Synapse, and file-based semi-structured data formats.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring high levels of data availability, integrity, and security.
  • Merge and consolidate databases.
  • Implement and manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Ensure database security, including user roles, access controls, and encryption.
  • Diagnose and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as tuning, patching, and upgrades.
  • Develop, manage, and test database recovery plans and procedures. Maintain documentation of database configurations, processes, and service records.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to users, developers, and other IT staff.
  • Work closely with the development team to optimize database design and support application development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Azure Synapse.
  • Strong understanding of database management systems, OLAP, ETL framework, and a proven track record of working with large datasets.
  • Knowledge of database languages like SQL, R, and Python.
  • Experience with database software/web applications.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid understanding of data lake and data lakehouse architecture.
  • Firm understanding of analytics, business intelligence, and data visualization tools.
  • Knowledge of the RedPoint Data Management Platform is a differentiator.
  • Solid understanding of the Azure Cloud Platform; Azure data, development, and/or infrastructure certifications are a bonus.
