The Mainframe Database Administrator (DBA) plays a critical role in the planning, analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of the organization's mainframe databases. This position involves consulting with and advising senior management and multiple clients on high-impact data or database management issues, thereby influencing the strategic direction of the organization. The Mainframe DBA is responsible for handling and leading various large-scale or highly complex data/database management activities. These activities may include designing highly complex logical and/or physical databases, leading data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning efforts, as well as developing management policies, procedures, and standards. Additionally, the DBA will be involved in business requirements identification, analysis, and development. In this role, the DBA will provide mentoring, guidance, and general oversight to less experienced staff in various database design, administration, and modeling activities. The responsibilities also include administering, testing, and implementing databases while applying knowledge of database management systems. The DBA will support development teams with the technical and physical design, development, and maintenance of z/OS DB2 databases, which encompasses data analysis and modeling, programming, implementation, performance monitoring, tuning, cloning/refreshing, planning, problem resolution, and data dictionary administration. Furthermore, the DBA will be tasked with installing, upgrading, and patching database software, agents, utilities, and options, while collaborating with development teams to ensure the use of standard practices for database design and implementation to meet user application requirements. The position requires maintaining test tools for managing database objects and diagnosing problems, evaluating and testing new versions, as well as third-party vendor utilities and reporting tools. The DBA will also execute test and audit strategies for backup, security, and disaster recovery of databases and other systems. This role requires a commitment to 24/7 support rotation for on-call support, ensuring that database systems are maintained and operational at all times.
