The Database Administrator (DBA) position at Caltech is a full-time role within the Information Management Services and Support (IMSS) department. This department is responsible for providing a wide range of computing support and resources across the Caltech campus, including email and calendar services, business applications, voice and data networks, information security, and digital media services. The mission of IMSS is to support Caltech by delivering robust, efficient, and secure computing services in a customer-oriented and collaborative environment. The DBA will play a crucial role in modernizing IT capabilities and solutions, focusing on database and middleware technologies for the Oracle E-business suite and its ecosystems. This position is essential for the response and recovery efforts of the campus, requiring the DBA to report to campus as soon as possible when needed. In this role, the DBA will be responsible for designing, configuring, and implementing databases, as well as establishing standards, guidelines, and procedures related to database management and ERP implementation. The DBA will maintain system integrity, security, performance, availability, and recoverability. Key responsibilities include performing critical patch management, customization, and configuration management of all Oracle EBS applications and databases. The DBA will also strategize for current and future technological developments, serve as the point of contact for database or middleware-related issues, and collaborate with technical infrastructure and application development teams to implement Oracle Databases in various environments. The ideal candidate will work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating a continuous improvement mindset and a commitment to Caltech's values of integrity, innovation, and inclusivity. The DBA will monitor database utilization, user functions, and performance metrics, analyze project requirements, and design solutions that align with business needs. Additionally, the DBA will work with storage and cybersecurity teams to establish backup policies, recovery procedures, and maintain database security policies. The role requires participation in on-call duty and providing 24x7 support when necessary, adhering to change control procedures and ensuring compliance with established policies.
