About the position

The Database Administrator II at PREMIER Bankcard is responsible for all activities related to the administration of computerized databases, including their design, control, and maintenance. This role involves analyzing information requirements and developing specifications for database construction and maintenance to ensure the economy, efficiency, safety of information, and utilization of new technical developments. The Database Administrator may confer and advise other associates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods regarding new or existing data files. Additionally, this position may project long-range requirements for database administration in conjunction with other managers in the data processing function. Key responsibilities include administering and maintaining the company database and data warehouses, implementing and monitoring database access and configurations, and resolving database performance and capacity issues. The Database Administrator will perform database recovery and backup, which may involve capacity planning and some development work. They are also responsible for ongoing data schema and documentation of all internal databases and tables, which may include maintaining data dictionaries. The role requires completing internal projects as assigned by Software Development management and providing problem management support. Daily decisions about the best way to resolve issues with minimal impact to users are made under management supervision. The Database Administrator will conduct DBA level installations and upgrades, including application-level patches and upgrades, while maintaining and documenting these installations. They will also ensure the highest level of database security, maintain user accounts and access, and determine approval levels for access forms. The position requires effective communication skills to present information to various levels within the organization, both in written and verbal forms. The Database Administrator will also perform associated tasks with on-call assignments, including answering help desk phone calls and monitoring the completion of daily processes. Overall, this role is critical in ensuring that database/table changes do not impact other areas of the application or database, and it involves completing projects that directly relate to general business operations.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and maintains the company database and data warehouses.
  • Implements and monitors database access and configurations.
  • Resolves database performance and capacity issues.

  • Responsible for ongoing data schema and documentation of all internal databases and tables.
  • Completes internal projects as assigned by Software Development management.
  • Provides problem management support.
  • Makes daily decisions about the best way to resolve issues with minimal impact to users under management supervision.
  • Conducts DBA level installations and upgrades including application level patches and upgrades.
  • Maintains and documents installation and upgrades, computer system validation, and disaster recovery information.
  • Maintains the highest level of database security.
  • Maintains user accounts and access, determining the approval level and maintaining access forms for the application.
  • Ensures projects are implemented in an uninterrupted and non-detrimental fashion by participating in software releases.
  • Documents changes to new databases/tables by completing the project form template and submitting to Software Development management as required.
  • Analyzes and develops timely, conclusive solutions to a variety of more complex issues.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of related experience, prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience in a software development environment.
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in related field or its equivalent.
  • Experience with SQL, Windows PowerShell Scripting, Microsoft Visual Studio, VB scripting, and VMWare Virtual Environment.
  • Strong development skills specifically in SSIS, Fivetran, Coalesce.
  • Windows domain and/or database experience/knowledge is necessary to perform essential functions and tasks of position.
  • Proficiency in the English language.

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS/Azure cloud experience preferred.
  • Data modeling experience preferred.
