About the position

As a Database Administrator II at IGT, you will play a crucial role in managing the physical database design, maintenance, and support functions across various database platforms. This position requires a solid understanding of data dictionaries, database structures, and the installation, upgrading, and management of database applications. You will be responsible for developing maintenance strategies and scripts, ensuring the accuracy and availability of data, and establishing policies and procedures related to database management, security, and utilization. In this role, you will analyze database performance statistics and perform tuning activities to optimize performance. You will also be involved in understanding and implementing database backup and recovery procedures, developing backup scripts, and recommending continuous improvements in database administration practices. The position includes shared on-call responsibilities in a 24/7 operational environment, requiring you to be proactive and responsive to database issues as they arise. Candidates must reside in or near Austin, TX, or Sacramento, CA, and should possess a minimum of 2-4 years of related experience. This role is essential for ensuring that IGT's database systems operate efficiently and effectively, supporting the company's commitment to delivering high-quality gaming experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all levels of physical database design, maintenance, and support functions on various database platforms.
  • Provide technical assistance in identifying and evaluating systems and procedures related to databases.
  • Develop maintenance strategies and scripts for database applications.
  • Design migration paths from older versions of DB2 to the latest releases.
  • Ensure accuracy and availability of data within the database systems.
  • Establish policies and procedures for database management, security, maintenance, and utilization.
  • Analyze database performance statistics and perform tuning activities to optimize performance.
  • Understand and implement database backup and recovery procedures, developing necessary backup scripts.
  • Recommend continuous improvements in database administration practices.
  • Share on-call responsibilities in a 24/7 operational environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of related experience in database administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL and database performance optimization.
  • Experience with DB2, Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server 2000.
  • Experience in multiple operating system environments, including Windows 2000, Linux, and AIX.
  • Experience with DB2 versions 8.1, 9, 10, and 11.
  • Experience with Oracle to DB2 migrations.
  • Experience in optimizing SQL queries generated by ORM frameworks like Hibernate.
  • Ability to work with customers to understand their requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with enterprise-level systems requiring high performance and availability.

  • Experience with Ctree is a plus.
