About the position

Southeastern Grocers is seeking a Database Administrator II who will play a crucial role in managing, monitoring, installing, configuring, and securing the company's databases, with a primary focus on SQL Server and Azure databases. This position requires a fundamental understanding of SQL and query tuning, as well as collaboration with development and business teams for code review and deployments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability and performance of databases, while also identifying opportunities for automation and improvement in database management processes. In this role, the Database Administrator will work through a ticket queue to address problem tickets and implement code changes, ensuring that all database systems are maintained effectively. The responsibilities include monitoring databases, reviewing logs, ensuring replication is functioning correctly, and conducting routine audits of database security and configurations. The candidate will also document processes, best practices, and standards for the team, assist with SQL tuning, and implement schema changes based on database designs. Continuous learning and deepening of scripting and database knowledge will be encouraged through training resources and collaboration with other DBAs. The work environment is primarily indoors in a traditional office setting, with a hybrid work model that allows for some flexibility. The position may require occasional on-call duties, ensuring that the databases are monitored and maintained 24/7. Responsibilities

  • Works through the ticket queue to address problem tickets, review and implement code changes
  • Monitors databases, reviews database logs, reviews job logs and ensures replication is working to ensure that systems are maintained as well as identifies opportunities to automate routine tasks
  • Routinely audits database security, configurations and capacity to ensure systems availability
  • Documents processes, best practices, Standards and Procedures for the team
  • Assists with SQL tuning and review database logs for performance tuning opportunities
  • Implements schema changes based on database designs and theories
  • Deepens scripting and database knowledge by using training resources and other DBAs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or 4 years additional relevant work experience
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience in database administration
  • Ability to read, write and understand SQL
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and ability to troubleshoot complicated issues
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage and configure Azure cloud databases
  • Fundamental understanding of SQL Server and Azure database platforms
  • Fundamental understanding of Windows OS
  • Fundamental understanding of backup and recovery procedures
  • Fundamental understanding of database security and best practices
  • Fundamental understanding of database design and best practices
  • Basic understanding of networking for troubleshooting purposes

Nice-to-haves

  • Fundamental understanding of other major OS platforms such as Linux and AIX
  • Fundamental understanding of other Database Platforms such as Oracle, Db2 and open source databases
  • Understanding of scripting in Bash, Python and other scripting languages
  • Experience working with large SQL Server databases
  • Experience in retail, warehouse and supply chain management software
  • Azure cloud database or database platform certifications
