About the position

The Database Administrator III at ConServe is responsible for providing technical expertise, oversight, and maintenance of the company's multiple database environments. This role requires collaboration with the Infrastructure and Application teams to ensure that the database environments and solutions are reliable, sustainable, and positioned for future growth. The Database Administrator III will establish, monitor, maintain, and manage database health and performance indicators, ensuring optimal operation and performance of the databases. In this position, the Database Administrator III will design, implement, maintain, and manage database backup and recovery processes, as well as evaluate and implement practices for system and data security. The role also involves designing, installing, maintaining, and upgrading the organization's databases across various environments, including development, testing, training, and production. A key aspect of this role is to enhance the capabilities of the team by providing technical and procedural mentoring and guidance to less experienced team members as needed. The Database Administrator III will troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement effective technical resolutions in a timely manner. They will confirm software solutions by conducting tests and modifying code and/or configuration as necessary. Additionally, the role includes providing reference documentation by writing and maintaining functional and technical specifications, and adhering to the software development lifecycle to maintain system and programming guidelines. The Database Administrator III will contribute to team efforts by keeping peers and management informed of potential changes that could impact daily operations, staffing needs, schedules, or work deliverables. Protecting operations by maintaining confidentiality of information is also a critical responsibility. The position requires monitoring production environments and providing off-hours support to ensure maximum system availability to the user base, while adhering to ConServe's Blueprint Quality Management System, Code of Conduct, and Compliance Program.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, monitor, maintain, and manage database health and performance indicators.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and manage database back-up and recovery processes.
  • Design, evaluate, and implement practices/processes for system and data security.
  • Design, install, maintain, and upgrade the organization's databases (development, testing, training, and production).
  • Enhance staff accomplishments and competence by providing technical and procedural mentoring/guidance for less experienced team members as needed.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, identifying root cause and implementing sound technical resolutions in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of database administration work experience required.
  • Significant experience in the administration of Microsoft SQL Server environments required.
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server environments; experience with PostgreSQL desired.
  • Experience with database backup, indexing, and database performance optimization required.
  • Expert SQL query development and optimization skills required.
  • Strong knowledge of Database and Information Security principles and controls preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applications development and high-level programming languages (C#, Java, C++, etc.) required.
  • Experience with reporting environments including SSRS preferred.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Office suite of products required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required, with the ability to communicate technical problems to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and multitask with limited supervision contributing as a team player required.
  • Experience handling multiple changing priorities and meeting deadlines in a professional manner required.
  • Must show a sense of urgency, being able to perform and multitask under pressure required.
  • Must be able to provide on-call support on a rotating basis required.
  • Ability to travel between ConServe's offices as needed required.
  • U.S. Citizenship or lawful Permanent Resident alien with three or more years as a permanent resident in the United States required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Government Security Clearance required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PostgreSQL is desired.
  • Experience with reporting environments including SSRS is preferred.
