About the position

The Database Administrator III will be responsible for the customization and operational functionality of Freezerworks software within an Army research laboratory environment. This role requires a US Citizenship and involves configuring databases, transferring data, validating information, and training users. The successful candidate will ensure data integrity and security while developing support tools and monitoring database performance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement database objects and modifications to support application implementation.
  • Implement Freezerworks database for program use, including configuring the database for storage units and transferring data.
  • Test and validate data and database records against physical inventory and ensure functionality checks for key capabilities.
  • Meet weekly with the Freezerworks consultant for implementation purposes.
  • Update management and customers weekly on progress, issues, and impacts.
  • Work with Compliance Manager and government customers, including various laboratory personnel.
  • Train laboratory personnel and others in using the Freezerworks database and changes to workflows.
  • Develop and implement performance metrics and reporting.
  • Monitor databases using performance monitoring tools and communicate performance issues to support groups.
  • Function as Freezerworks administrator for the program and maintain detailed records of activities.
  • Manage changing priorities and workloads effectively.
  • Provide daily support to internal and external customers and after-hours support as needed.
  • Mentor lab and other professionals in the use of Freezerworks.
  • Participate in capacity planning and database backup/recovery activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study.
  • At least 6 years of progressive IT and database administration experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience implementing or using LIMS.
  • Working knowledge of research laboratory biospecimen use and storage.
  • In-depth knowledge of specified database tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Information Systems and basic system protocols.
  • Ability to work in a research laboratory in the DoD domain.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure.
  • Professional representation of employer and customer.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass pre-employment qualifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SQL server administration.
  • Knowledge of data security and performance tuning.
  • Experience with backup and recovery processes.
