About the position

The Database Administrator III position at Salt Lake County involves the management, development, and maintenance of various databases to support both public and private sectors. The role requires designing and implementing database systems while ensuring data integrity, performance optimization, and compliance with policies and procedures. The DBA will act as a subject matter expert, assisting other DBAs with complex issues and contributing to the overall efficiency of database operations.

Responsibilities

• Manage the setup and configuration of partitioned tables and views.
• Monitor database performance and optimize settings using Dynamic Management Views and Activity Monitor.
• Develop and maintain procedures for handling deadlocks and locking issues.
• Create and optimize stored procedures and other programmatic objects using T-SQL and CLR.
• Design and implement appropriate data types and locking mechanisms for transactions.
• Analyze and optimize index usage and performance for various workloads.
• Implement data design patterns and ensure appropriate normalization of SQL tables.
• Tune poorly performing queries and optimize execution plans.
• Inspect and maintain physical characteristics of indexes and perform necessary maintenance tasks.
• Implement data control language statements and manage database roles and permissions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field.
• Four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Informix, and DB2.
• Experience with SQL programming language, including creating queries, stored procedures, and functions.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for database integrity and performance issues.
