About the position

The Database Administrator IV at Intercontinental Exchange Holdings, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting and maintaining multiple production and non-production databases that have significant strategic impact across the enterprise. This position is responsible for the standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access, and security administration. The role requires a strategic engineering leadership approach to drive technology improvements and ensure successful implementation of projects, including tech-stack upgrades. The DBA will act as a technical liaison between the DBA team and various lines of business, fostering relationships to enhance collaboration and efficiency. Key responsibilities include performing backup and recovery on Database Management Systems, configuring database parameters, and prototyping designs against logical data models. The DBA will define data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing requirements while optimizing database access and allocating resources for optimal configuration and performance. Ensuring that service level agreements are met for both internal and external clients is a critical aspect of this role. The DBA will also provide status reports detailing issues for escalation to management, perform configuration, scripting, analysis, installation, monitoring, administration, and tuning for database management systems. In addition, the DBA will conduct data analysis to provide management with timely and accurate information, predict future requirements, and develop, implement, and test database backup and recovery policies and procedures. Documentation for database policies, procedures, and processes must be created and maintained. Routine maintenance on databases is essential to keep them running at peak performance, and the DBA will monitor database performance, availability, and capacity. The role also involves reviewing database storage utilization, developing trend analysis for incident remediation and prevention, and participating in continuous business process redesign to improve internal operations. The DBA will interface with user departments both remotely and on-site to assist in implementing work requests and providing operational support, troubleshoot issues, and recommend solutions. Additionally, the DBA will research and evaluate new RDBMS for possible implementation and perform other duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic engineering leadership to drive technology improvements.
  • Take ownership of projects to ensure successful implementation including Tech-Stack upgrade efforts.
  • Foster relationship and act as a technical liaison between the DBA Team and the Lines of Business.
  • Perform backup and recovery on Database Management Systems, configure database parameters and prototype designs against logical data models.
  • Define data repository requirements, data dictionaries and warehousing requirements.
  • Optimize database access and allocate/re-allocate database resources for optimum configuration, database performance and cost.
  • Ensure service level agreements are met for internal and external clients.
  • Provide status reports that detail issues for escalation to management.
  • Perform configuration, scripting, analysis, installation, monitoring, administration and tuning for database management systems.
  • Perform data analysis to provide management with timely and accurate information and predict future requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
  • Nine (9) or more years of experience working with various database management systems in database design, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration in a multiple platform environment.
  • Expert level knowledge of SQL Server database management systems (2012, 2014, 2017, & 2019 [SQL 2022 is a plus]).
  • Expert level knowledge of SQL performance and tuning.
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft GEO-Clustering and Always-On Availability Groups in local and geographically dispersed data centers.
  • Extensive knowledge of task automation.
  • Strong database design and analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery operations for database management systems.
  • Knowledge of database encryption such as Always Encrypted, Protegrity, TDE, and TLS.
  • Knowledge of OS, storage, and network layers for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Knowledge of relational database concepts and terminology.
  • Ability to monitor and tune databases and instances.
  • Ability to maintain and monitor availability, security, and integrity of databases.
  • Ability to focus on production and customer needs and deliverables.
  • Ability to adapt to the use of new software tools as they are acquired or adopted within IT.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, a team player, and have a strong track record in customer satisfaction.
