About the position

The Database Administrator IV position is a part-time role within the Office of Information Services (OIS) that focuses on the administration of the enterprise DB2 environment. The role involves providing expert consultation, managing IBM DB2 databases, and supporting various applications across different platforms. The position is integral to the Mainframe Modernization project and requires collaboration with technical and business stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of critical state systems.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage the enterprise DB2 environment for Unix and Mainframe operating systems.
  • Perform data refreshes in development, test, and UAT environments.
  • Assist in the deprecation of legacy DB2 databases and troubleshoot DB2 job and database issues.
  • Plan and implement DB2 upgrades and patches, and support the export and load of production data.
  • Provide DBA support for applications running on AIX, zOS, and Linux platforms.
  • Create and manage JCL jobs to automate database and system tasks.
  • Develop and maintain UNIX shell scripts to monitor table space and buffer pool usage.
  • Work with ETL tools to extract DB2 data and develop ETL routines using DB2 utilities.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance and education to application developers and business analysts for DB2, COBOL, JCL, and SQL.
  • Conduct performance analysis and identify tuning opportunities to enhance database performance.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of Information Systems Technology principles and practices.
  • Experience with project administration methods and information systems architecture.
  • Proficient in designing, developing, monitoring, and maintaining databases.
  • Strong skills in administering comprehensive, multi-system projects and directing internal staff and contractors.
  • Extensive knowledge of DB2 on z/OS and AIX, including SQL construction and optimization.
  • Understanding of database connectivity to DB2 z/OS from various platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automation products that support data management environments.
  • Knowledge of trends and technological changes in Information Systems.
