About the position

Leidos is seeking a Database Administrator to join a Government-Contractor team that provides support for a near real-time, geospatially accurate Common Operating Picture (COP) toolset. This toolset is essential for sharing and reusing geospatial intelligence across various functional areas to support military operations. The Database Administrator will be responsible for creating, managing, optimizing, and deploying GEOINT databases onto customer hardware and software baselines. This role will also involve providing expertise to enhance the performance of GEOINT databases across the entire program, including both testing environments and deployed instances. The Database Administrator will administrate the organization's database using a database management system to organize and store data effectively. This includes testing programs or databases, correcting errors, and making necessary modifications. The role requires planning, coordinating, and implementing security measures to safeguard information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure. The Database Administrator will work as part of a project team to coordinate database development, determining project scope and limitations, and writing and coding logical and physical database descriptions. Additionally, the Database Administrator will train users, answer questions, and specify user access levels for each segment of the database. They will also approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems, such as the installation of new databases. Reviewing project requests to estimate time and cost required to accomplish projects is also a key responsibility. The role includes developing standards and guidelines for the use and acquisition of software while protecting vulnerable information.

Responsibilities

  • Administrate the organization's database using a database management system to organize and store data.
  • Test programs or databases, correct errors, and make necessary modifications; modify existing databases and database management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
  • Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of the database to the management system or direct others in coding descriptions.
  • Train users and answer questions; specify users and user access levels for each segment of the database.
  • Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems such as the installation of new databases.
  • Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish projects.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for the use and acquisition of software and protect vulnerable information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience OR Master's Degree and 2 years of experience; 4 years work experience, OR Associate's Degree plus 2 years of experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related scientific or technical discipline.
  • Two years of related DoD, Military, or US Government related experience.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • An active secret level security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Database certifications (i.e. Oracle; SQL server etc.) or other related technical certifications.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, Ruby, or PHP and Windows Power Shell or Perl.
  • Familiarity with GIS, geospatial data, and geospatial products, including Esri.
