About the position

ACI is seeking a Junior Database Administrator to provide the organizational support necessary to meet the needs of a high-profile project. The job location is Washington DC. The Junior Database Administrator will be responsible for testing, implementing, maintaining, and controlling the organization's databases across multiple platforms and technologies, including physical, relational, and object-oriented databases in an Azure cloud environment. The ability to apply comprehensive functional and technical knowledge along with programming skills in a team setting is key to ensuring data quality of the highest level and for effective problem resolution. The role involves performing disciplined, auditable execution of established data warehouse ETL (extract/transform/load) programs and refresh procedures. The Junior Database Administrator will execute disciplined, recurring manual data extractions, downloads, and pre-processing of FTP data files as inputs to the data mart. Additionally, they will test and implement new releases to the data mart and contribute to the development of new methods, procedures, processes, or systems while understanding the impact of these changes. Support and expertise in the investigation and resolution of performance-related issues for warehousing environments will be required. The candidate will proactively monitor and remedy data quality failures in recurring data mart ETL and refresh processes, provide support in installing and upgrading database software, and resolve database software problems. Evaluations of potential tools and utilities will also be part of the responsibilities, along with automating database tasks via scripting or through the use of tools. The role requires proactive configuration, monitoring, and reviewing of statistics for errors, capacity, and performance issues, as well as tuning and troubleshooting software and database performance issues.

Requirements

  • College degree in computer science from an accredited university.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in SQL Server programming is mandatory.
  • Some experience in other programming languages such as Python, Java, PL/SQL, .NET, SAS is highly preferred.
  • Background and prior experience in working with databases in data warehousing environments is desirable.
