About the position

The Oracle Database Analyst/Administrator is a senior role within the Motive Hosted Services team, responsible for the administration and support of enterprise-class Oracle database environments. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in administering Oracle databases within web/application farm architectures and technologies, as well as developing reports using SQL and PL/SQL. The successful candidate will be involved in the planning, design, implementation, and ongoing support of large Oracle database environments, particularly in high-availability configurations such as Veritas clusters or other HA technologies. In this role, the analyst/administrator will be a senior member of a team tasked with the day-to-day maintenance of very large Oracle databases and the development of application data reporting jobs. Responsibilities include Unix/Windows-based Oracle database development, monitoring database performance, and ensuring the efficient design and development of data reporting jobs using ETL tools and scripting. The position also involves staging and testing database instances for new customers and applications, contributing to design enhancements of database/application infrastructure architecture to support business growth, and providing first-line troubleshooting for Oracle database issues. The role requires a strong understanding of database performance tuning, SQL tuning, and reporting and data analysis. The analyst/administrator will work closely with department managers and internal teams to analyze and resolve technical issues in the hosted environment, ensuring adherence to company policies and standards, change control principles, and reporting SLA status principles. The successful candidate must be available for 24x7 support in accordance with customer SLAs, demonstrating leadership and growth of technical staff while proposing methodologies and best practices for delivering outstanding service. This position is located at the corporate headquarters in Austin, TX, USA, and involves working in a fast-paced, high-tech environment that demands agility and critical decision-making under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Oracle databases in web/application farm architectures.
  • Develop reports using SQL and PL/SQL.
  • Perform database performance tuning and SQL tuning.
  • Plan, design, implement, and support large Oracle database environments in Veritas cluster or other HA technologies.
  • Maintain very large Oracle databases and develop application data reporting jobs.
  • Conduct Unix/Windows based Oracle database development.
  • Design and operate multi-location server/database environments.
  • Manage Oracle software upgrades and migrations.
  • Configure and manage Oracle databases.
  • Monitor Oracle databases and related services.
  • Stage and test database instances for new customers and applications.
  • Contribute to design enhancements of database/application infrastructure architecture.
  • Design and develop data reporting jobs using ETL tools and scripting.
  • Troubleshoot Oracle database issues and report performance levels.
  • Lead and grow technical staff.
  • Collaborate with department managers and internal teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Implement change control principles and report SLA status.
  • Propose methodologies and best practices for service delivery.
  • Provide 24x7 support in accordance with customer SLAs.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with administering Oracle databases in web/application farm architectures.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Unix OS technologies.
  • Familiarity with database performance tuning, SQL tuning, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Experience with planning, design, implementation, and support of large Oracle database environments in Veritas cluster or other HA technologies.
  • Experience with server clustering and load balancing technologies for high-availability.
  • Demonstrated success with full life cycle technical and project leadership of high-availability, high-volume Oracle database environments.
  • Strong problem-solving methodology and ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
