About the position

The Postgres Database Administrator will be responsible for the monitoring and uptime of all production databases, specifically focusing on estimating Microsoft SQL or PostgreSQL database capacities. This role requires the development of methods for monitoring database capacity and usage, ensuring that the databases operate efficiently and effectively. The position is hands-on, necessitating solid technical skills alongside excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Candidates who prefer hybrid or remote work arrangements will also be considered for this role. In this position, you will lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, which will help in reducing any potential downtime. You will set database usage standards in collaboration with developers and manage schema updates and code-driven database changes. Additionally, you will participate in application development projects, taking responsibility for the database architecture and design. This includes creating development, staging, and production database instances and overseeing the migration from one environment to another. Your responsibilities will also include diagnosing and troubleshooting database errors, recommending and implementing emerging database technologies, and creating and managing database reports, visualizations, and dashboards. You will provide oversight and manage MS SQL Server, AWS cloud-native RDBMS, and NoSQL databases for new product lines. Collaboration with IT team members, development teams, and other DBAs will be essential to create and update policies and procedures for configuring, monitoring, and supporting databases in customer-facing cloud environments. Additionally, you will be part of a rotating on-call schedule and support complex web-based applications. Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, reducing any needed downtime.
  • Set database usage standards with developers.
  • Manage schema updates and code-driven DB changes with developers.
  • Participate in application development projects and be responsible for the database architecture and design.
  • Participate in the creation of development, staging, and production database instances, and the migration from one environment to another.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Recommend optimizations to existing application queries.
  • Provide oversight and manage MS SQL Server, AWS cloud-native RDBMS and NoSQL DBs for new product lines.
  • Work closely with IT team members, Development, DBAs to create and update policies, procedures to configure, monitor and support the Databases in Customer facing Cloud environments.
  • Be a part of rotating on-call schedules.
  • Support complex web-based applications.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience as a PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL database administrator.
  • Experience designing and deploying PostgreSQL databases on Cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Experience with AWS and Azure RDS offerings and support.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
  • 3 years of expert experience performing database performance analysis, system and statement SQL tuning.
  • Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident status required; Visa Sponsorship or C2C not available.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive AWS RDS experience.
  • Experience with NoSQL technologies.
