The Database Administrator at the University of the Pacific plays a crucial role in managing and optimizing the institution's database systems under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Information Technology. This position involves analyzing user needs, reviewing system capabilities, and initiating necessary process and system improvements. The Database Administrator will utilize their expertise in SQL, Oracle, and other database administration skills to ensure data integrity, system architecture, programming, and database design, particularly focusing on the operational database administration of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. In this role, the Database Administrator will act as a liaison between the vendor supporting the EHR system and other systems, ensuring the maintenance and security of the school's databases. This includes responsibilities for data integrity, security, confidentiality, maintenance, training, user interaction, and project management for installations and updates. The position requires designing the digital infrastructure for the school’s database systems, which is essential for efficient database resource utilization. The Database Administrator will analyze existing applications and systems to determine necessary modifications or enhancements, perform pre-implementation tasks such as upgrades and capacity planning, and create periodic and special reports to provide information on project status and system enhancements. Additionally, the role involves organizing and reviewing documentation for applications, database systems, software, hardware, and processes, including backup and recovery procedures. The Database Administrator will also monitor system and application upgrades and research new technologies relevant to the position. Collaboration with system administrators, application and network administrators, and other stakeholders is vital to ensure optimal database performance and integration with other systems. The Database Administrator will perform all other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Information Technology, contributing to the overall success of the IT department and the university's mission.
