The Database Administrator (Oracle, SQL) position is a critical role responsible for maintaining and supporting Oracle, SQL Server, and Postgres databases. This role involves day-to-day maintenance, development, and installation of new systems, as well as enhancements to existing systems. The successful candidate will utilize various tools and utilities to perform essential database management system (DBMS) maintenance activities, including database reorganizations, backup and recovery, space management, performance tuning, and change management. In this role, the Database Administrator will assist application developers and other clients with database usage and software development activities. It is essential to ensure that all software or systems under their responsibility are monitored and tuned to maintain acceptable levels of performance and resource utilization. The administrator will also be responsible for ensuring that the software utilizes all appropriate functions and features, providing timely and accurate reporting on performance, utilization, and feature use as requested. Staying current with new IT technologies is crucial to maintain a high level of subject matter expertise. The position requires the installation of complex, clustered, and high-availability software and hardware environments in a timely manner, adhering to current release levels. The Database Administrator will follow and maintain all corporate change control and audit requirements, create and maintain schedules for software maintenance and upgrades, and research software compatibility within the organization’s Enterprise Architecture. Additionally, the role involves providing technical assistance to Operations, Applications, Business Clients, and the Help Desk to resolve production schedules or problems. The administrator will provide 24x7 on-call support for assigned systems and software, utilizing available resources to research, resolve, and recommend solutions for the most complex and critical systems. Participation in technical discussions within the team and sharing technical expertise with other activities is expected, along with effective communication between key IT groups and the customer community through meetings and status reporting mechanisms. The Database Administrator will also participate in organization-wide technology projects for the most complex and critical technologies.
