About the position

At Unparalleled Preparatory Academy (UPA), we are committed to redefining education through an innovative blend of career immersion, design thinking, and leadership development. We are looking for a Database Administrator to help support the development of our technology infrastructure as we build a transformative, career-focused educational environment for our students. As the Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of UPA's databases, ensuring data integrity, optimizing performance, and providing technical support for applications and data management. You will play a key role in developing standards, managing database objects, and assisting with system integration to ensure our systems support the educational mission of UPA. In this role, you will lead the onboarding and stratification of information systems, manage, maintain, and support the district's Student Information System. You will set up, manage, and troubleshoot features within the Student Information System in support of critical educational processes such as registration, course scheduling, and grading. Additionally, you will administer and maintain user permissions, group permissions, and passwords for the Student Information System. You will coordinate the collection, integration, and formatting of all data required for PEIMS submission according to PEIMS Data Standards, working cooperatively with campus, business office, and personnel office staff to ensure timely submission of district PEIMS data. Your responsibilities will also include providing frequent attendance and demographic reports for back office, campus, and district administration that support decision-making regarding staffing and finance. You will be responsible for submitting complete and accurate PEIMS data in Texas Education Agency (TEA)-prescribed format to the education service center (ESC) for processing. Furthermore, you will install, configure, and upgrade database management systems (DBMS) software and servers, create and maintain databases, tables, views, indexes, and other database objects, and monitor and optimize the performance of databases for efficient data retrieval and storage. You will identify and resolve database performance issues, errors, and bottlenecks, perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, log analysis, and space management, and collaborate with developers to design efficient database structures. As a Database Administrator, you will also provide technical mentorship and cross-training to peers and team members, assist in the development and refinement of complex queries, reports, and stored procedures, and ensure data integrity and security by working with restricted and sensitive information. Staying updated on the latest database technologies and recommending tools to improve performance, security, and scalability will be essential. You will develop data validation edits and web-based applications using available coding tools, create and maintain documentation, including data dictionaries, system specifications, and standard operating procedures, and provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users and stakeholders.
