About the position

The Bronx District Attorney's Office is seeking a well-qualified Database Administrator/Programmer to join their team. This position is crucial for supporting the office's mission to serve the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community and to pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management and administration, with a focus on Oracle databases. The role involves installing and configuring databases in compliance with licensing agreements, performing upgrades, managing storage structures, and ensuring the security and efficiency of the database systems. In this role, the Database Administrator will be responsible for managing users, schema objects, and writing and optimizing SQL queries to retrieve, manipulate, and analyze data. The candidate will also be tasked with making database backups, performing recovery operations, and proactively monitoring the health of the databases. Troubleshooting database issues and coordinating with various teams to ensure operational effectiveness will be key responsibilities. The position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of database performance and security, as well as the ability to handle related duties and projects as assigned. Responsibilities

  • Installing and configuring databases with license compliance in coordination with vendors and agency partners.
  • Performing upgrades of the database and software to new release levels.
  • Managing the database's storage structures.
  • Managing users and security.
  • Managing schema objects, such as tables, indexes, views, triggers, and procedures using PL/SQL and SSMS.
  • Writing and optimizing SQL queries to retrieve, manipulate, and analyze data.
  • Ensuring code efficiency, maintainability, and security.
  • Making database backups and performing recovery when necessary.
  • Proactively monitoring the database's health and taking preventive or corrective action as required.
  • Responsible for database performance tuning.
  • Responsible for database troubleshooting.
  • Coordinating with appropriate teams to ensure operational effectiveness of databases and apply database, OS, and security patches.
  • Performing all other related duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or high school diploma and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • At least three years' experience as an Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) on 10g, 11g, 12c, or 19c with strong knowledge of Oracle Data Guard or RMAN backup.
  • Experience with System administration or Microsoft SQL database installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Azure or/and AWS is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent technical documentation writing skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong project management skills in a team-oriented environment.

  • Experience with cloud services such as Azure or AWS.
