About the position

The Bronx District Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join their team. This position is crucial for ensuring the effective management and operation of databases that support the office's mission to serve the Bronx County community. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration, particularly with Oracle databases, and will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include installing and configuring databases, performing upgrades, managing storage structures, and ensuring the security and efficiency of database operations. In this role, the Database Administrator will be tasked with writing and optimizing SQL queries to retrieve, manipulate, and analyze data, ensuring that the code is efficient, maintainable, and secure. The candidate will also be responsible for making database backups and performing recovery when necessary, proactively monitoring the health of the databases, and taking preventive or corrective actions as required. Performance tuning and troubleshooting of databases will be key responsibilities, along with coordinating with various teams to ensure the operational effectiveness of the databases and applying necessary patches. Responsibilities

  • Installing and configuring databases with license compliance in coordination with vendors and agency partners.
  • Performing upgrades of the database and software to new release levels.
  • Managing the database's storage structures.
  • Managing users and security.
  • Managing schema objects, such as tables, indexes, views, triggers, and procedures using PL/SQL and SSMS.
  • Writing and optimizing SQL queries to retrieve, manipulate, and analyze data.
  • Ensuring code efficiency, maintainability, and security.
  • Making database backups and performing recovery when necessary.
  • Proactively monitoring the database's health and taking preventive or corrective action as required.
  • Responsible for database performance tuning.
  • Responsible for database troubleshooting.
  • Coordinating with appropriate teams to ensure operational effectiveness of databases and apply database, OS, and security patches.
  • Performing all other related duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or high school diploma and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • At least three years' experience as an Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) on 10g, 11g, 12c, or 19c with strong knowledge of Oracle Data Guard or RMAN backup.
  • Experience with System administration or Microsoft SQL database installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Azure or/and AWS is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent technical documentation writing skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, a sense of responsibility, and an ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong project management skills in a team-oriented environment.
