About the position

The Database Administrator Senior/Lead is responsible for managing and optimizing the database infrastructure that supports enterprise business applications within the Judicial Branch of Arizona. This role involves designing, developing, implementing, and documenting various database solutions, primarily using Microsoft technologies. The position also includes working on system migrations and ETL processes to facilitate data movement between systems and partners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SQL Server administration and will provide leadership and training to a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides lead direction, training, and work review to a team; organizes and assigns work as appropriate.
  • Plans, prepares, defines, structures, develops, and implements complex database systems.
  • Manages data integrity, security, availability, and recoverability to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participates on multiple, technically complex, mission-critical, and/or high-profile data projects or initiatives simultaneously.
  • Defines and implements interfaces to ensure that various applications and user-installed or vendor-developed systems interact with the required database systems.
  • Tests, troubleshoots, refines, and documents systems; applies quality assurance and security standards to ensure against the loss of data and minimal interruption of usage in the event of equipment failure.
  • Plans and develops test data to validate new or modified database applications; monitors system performance using appropriate utilities, online capabilities, and batch reports to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work.
  • Uses ad-hoc queries to investigate data issues in relational source systems.
  • Writes program documentation and user procedures and instructions and assists user departments and staff in implementing new or modified database applications.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through education, benchmarking state-of-threat practices, publications, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in database design, development, maintenance, administration, and support, including experience as a SQL Server DBA.
  • Experience with virtual environments (VMWare, others).
  • Experience installing, patching, and upgrading SQL Server databases.
  • Experience with high availability technologies such as clustering and AlwaysOn.
  • Experience working with SQL Server versions 2016, 2019 in an administrator role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with older versions of SQL Server is a plus.
