About the position

As a Senior Database Administrator at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), you will play a crucial role in supporting the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) mission in Fort Belvoir, VA. This position involves working with the Defense Stockpile Management Systems (DSMS), which encompasses various systems such as the Defense Integration and Management of Nuclear Data Services (DIAMONDS), Joint Application Design Environment (JADE), Nuclear Inventory Management and Cataloging System (NIMACS), Government Acceptance Testing (GAT), and DIAMONDS Accountability Training System (DATS). Your primary responsibility will be to deliver insights that help clients turn data into actionable solutions, addressing big-data challenges and advancing their mission. In this role, you will resolve complex issues related to database performance, capacity, resiliency, and stability. You will perform testing, analysis, and modifications of existing SQL stored procedures, evaluate and tune Oracle objects, and manage installations, upgrades, and security patches for Oracle Database versions 12.2 through 19.23. You will also work closely with application development teams to support data-oriented development efforts and assist in analyzing user requirements. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining an electronic repository of database documentation and changes, as well as researching and recommending solutions that meet operational needs. The position requires a strong understanding of Oracle Data Guard Replication and Recovery Manager, along with experience in both Linux and Windows operating systems. You will be expected to create database schemas and objects, evaluate existing structures, and propose enhancements to improve efficiency while ensuring data integrity. Your ability to work independently and collaboratively will be vital as you navigate diverse situations and rapidly changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve complex issues involving database performance, capacity, resiliency, and stability.
  • Perform testing, analysis, and modification of existing database SQL stored procedures.
  • Evaluate, refine, and tune existing Oracle objects in support of applications.
  • Install, upgrade, patch, secure, diagnose system problems, and troubleshoot Oracle Database versions 12.2 through 19.23.
  • Digest onsite concepts, design, implementation, limitations, and configuration of complex database environments.
  • Define, troubleshoot, document, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Work closely with application development teams to implement and support data-oriented development efforts.
  • Assist with analysis and documentation of user requirements.
  • Implement system security patches and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Maintain an electronic repository of all database baseline, changes, and documentation.
  • Research and recommend solutions that best meet program needs and operational requirements.
  • Create database schemas and objects such as tables, columns, triggers, stored procedures, and scheduled jobs.
  • Evaluate, review, revise, and integrate database change requests.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience in database administration, specifically with Oracle Database Enterprise Editions.
  • 3+ years of increasing responsibilities in Oracle Application Development and Database Administration.
  • 2+ years of direct IT experience supporting database environments on RHEL and Windows system platforms.
  • Fully adjudicated Secret security clearance to start with TS SCI eligibility.
  • Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) and Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) prior to hire.
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II Certification, e.g., CompTIA Security + w/CE.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Oracle 19c software.
  • Exposure to other RDBMS systems such as MSSQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with features such as Automatic Storage Management and Data Guard.
  • Sound efficiency in developing PL/SQL code and genuine relational database management.
