About the position

Genesis10 is seeking a Senior Database Administrator for a contract position with an insurance company in Franklin, WI, lasting through July 2025. The role involves engineering and supporting SQL Server database systems, focusing on analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, and upgrades. The position emphasizes database environment security, infrastructure availability, and automation, while applying established architectural and engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability.
• Implement and manage SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (AOAG) and other high availability and disaster recovery (HADR) solutions.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Ansible, and other tools to streamline database management tasks.
• Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime.
• Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and resource management.
• Develop and implement robust backup and recovery procedures.
• Ensure database security through the application of best practices and adherence to compliance requirements.
• Proactively monitor production databases to ensure high availability and performance, observing key metrics such as performance, storage, and memory utilization.
• Set up and manage automated alerts to identify and address issues proactively.
• Perform regular health checks and maintenance to prevent potential problems.
• Work collaboratively within and outside the team and other departments to support application development, deployment, and maintenance.
• Share knowledge and mentor junior team members.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with SQL Server database administration.
• Strong knowledge of MSBI components (SSAS, SSIS, SSRS).
• Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Proficiency in automation and scripting using PowerShell and Ansible.
• Experience in planning and executing database migrations.
• Strong skills in performance tuning and optimization of databases.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures.
• Understanding of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
