About the position

The Senior Database Administrator at Leidos is responsible for the administration and management of computerized databases, particularly for a federal law enforcement agency. This role involves designing, creating, and maintaining databases, ensuring data integrity, and providing technical expertise across multiple projects. The position requires collaboration with other managers and users to optimize database performance and security while supporting the overall IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provides all activities related to the administration of computerized databases.
  • Projects long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function.
  • Designs, creates, and maintains databases in a client/server environment.
  • Conducts quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data.
  • Advises users on access to various client/server databases.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains complex databases with respect to JCL, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
  • Applies knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and programming languages (e.g., SQL).
  • Performs database programming and supports systems design.
  • Maintains database dictionaries, monitors standards and procedures, and integrates systems through database design.
  • Handles database performance tuning, upgrades, and patching to all COTS database products.
  • Writes database scripts, manages database storage, and interfaces with external applications.
  • Provides general operating system and application administration.
  • Supports from the hardware level through to the applications running to support a service.
  • Plans and leads major technology assignments and evaluates performance results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or equivalent experience; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 8-12 years of prior relevant experience or a Master's with 6-10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently to develop creative solutions.
  • Ability to work well within a small team environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • US Citizenship.
