About the position

The Bank is seeking an experienced Database Administrator with SQL Server/Oracle Database administration skills and a strong background in hybrid cloud hosting. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of SQL Server and Oracle administration coupled with expertise in AWS services, particularly AWS RDS SQL Server and DMS. Proficiency in infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, scripting languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, and experience with serverless computing using AWS Lambda functions are essential for success in this role. The selected colleague will work at an MUFG office or client sites four days per week and work remotely one day. Responsibilities include designing, deploying, and managing SQL Server and Oracle databases on premises and in AWS RDS, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and scalability. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to architect and implement hybrid cloud database solutions aligned with business requirements, as well as developing and maintaining infrastructure as code to automate the provisioning and configuration of a hybrid cloud database environment. In addition to design and implementation, the role involves monitoring and maintaining the health, performance, and security of a hybrid cloud database environment. The Database Administrator will implement cost optimization strategies, perform database migrations, upgrades, and patching activities, and manage database backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability. Continuous improvement of database infrastructure and architecture to support evolving business needs is also a key responsibility. Automation and scripting are critical components of this position, utilizing Python, Bash, Ansible, PowerShell, and Terraform to automate database administration tasks and enhance operational efficiency. The candidate will also be responsible for implementing and enforcing security best practices for Data Platforms in a hybrid cloud environment, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies through proper configuration and auditing. Documentation and support are essential, as the Database Administrator will document database configurations, procedures, and best practices for knowledge sharing and team collaboration, while providing support and troubleshooting assistance to resolve database-related issues, performance bottlenecks, and scalability challenges in hybrid cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage SQL Server and Oracle databases on premises and in AWS RDS, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect and implement hybrid cloud database solutions aligned with business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Python, Bash, Ansible, PowerShell, and Terraform to automate the provisioning and configuration of a hybrid cloud database environment.
  • Migrate on premises databases to AWS using DMS, DMS CDC and develop custom CDC scripts.
  • Monitor and maintain the health, performance, and security of a hybrid cloud database environment.
  • Implement cost optimization strategies and ensure efficient utilization of database resources.
  • Perform database migrations, upgrades, and patching activities with minimal downtime and risk.
  • Implement and manage database backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Utilize Python, Bash, Ansible, PowerShell, and Terraform scripting to automate database administration tasks, streamline processes, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Automate the configuration and management of database security policies, access controls, and encryption in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Document database configurations, procedures, and best practices for knowledge sharing and team collaboration.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting assistance to other team members and stakeholders to resolve database-related issues, performance bottlenecks, and scalability challenges in hybrid cloud environments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server/Oracle Database Administrator.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server/Oracle and AWS Cloud environments for at least 5 years.
  • Strong proficiency in AWS services, particularly AWS RDS and related cloud technologies.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform for automating cloud infrastructure provisioning and management.
  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, Ansible, and PowerShell scripting for automation, orchestration, and integration tasks.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).
  • Experience with agile methodologies and working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Solid understanding of SQL Server/Oracle performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience with database security principles and best practices, including encryption, access controls, and compliance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues in hybrid cloud environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
