We are looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in Lansing, MI. This position is not a short-term contract; we aim to eventually transition the selected candidate to a full-time employee if desired. The primary goal is to find an individual who meets our skill requirements, particularly in migrating from Sybase to SQL Server. The DBA will be expected to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with two days on-site. There is a rotation for on-call duties from Saturday morning to Monday morning, and the selected candidate may be required to assist with this after an initial learning period. Overtime and weekend work are rare and must be scheduled and approved by our customer, as this is generally a scheduled project. Our current environment is predominantly Sybase, specifically version 15.7 on Solaris, and we are in the process of transitioning to a pure SQL Server environment over the next three years. The SQL Server environment consists of mixed versions of SQL Server running on various Windows Server versions, including both on-premises servers and Azure. The selected DBA will need to have experience with formal change control environments and strong troubleshooting skills. The ideal candidate will assist with tasks related to Sybase 15.7, including running and developing CRON jobs, and will be familiar with command line operations. The DBA should have a foundational understanding of Sybase ASE 15.7, even at a junior level, to support senior DBAs during after-hours implementations and weekly data fixes. Additionally, the candidate will help alleviate the workload of SQL Server DBAs, requiring experience with Windows Servers and SQL Server, as well as working with clusters and Disaster Recovery in development, test, and production environments. A strong background in migration from Sybase to SQL Server is highly desired.
