About the position

As a Database Administrator Technical Lead at Freddie Mac, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing database platforms, primarily focusing on Microsoft SQL Server, with secondary expertise in Sybase and PostgreSQL. This position requires a seasoned professional who can handle both operational and strategic aspects of database management, ensuring high availability and performance while supporting modern development methodologies. You will be responsible for 24x7 administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of database environments, contributing to the overall health and efficiency of the database operations team.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, troubleshoot, and support Database Platforms including production and non-production environments 24x7.
  • Write and manage scripts and utilities to automate day-to-day database administration tasks.
  • Monitor and perform performance analysis of existing applications to ensure systems meet ongoing needs.
  • Write technical documentation, operational procedures, and incident/problem communications.
  • Quickly restore service during system outages and provide troubleshooting support to team members.
  • Lead enterprise projects and initiatives related to Database Operations, collaborating with vendors and cross-functional teams.
  • Drive performance enhancements and operational approaches with infrastructure and product development teams.
  • Conduct configuration and compliance audits, making recommendations to improve operational agility and efficiency.
  • Perform regular health checks on database environments and manage on-call rotation for issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Over 10 years of DBA SQL Server subject matter expertise.
  • Over 5 years of cross-trained tech lead DBA expertise in SQL Server (primary) and Sybase/PostgreSQL (secondary).
  • Strong working knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, Performance Tuning, Database Backup, Governance and Compliance Controls, Monitoring and Maintenance.
  • Strong scripting knowledge using PowerShell and/or shell/Perl.
  • Excellent understanding of Windows Operating Systems and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
  • Certified MCSA DBA and/or AWS SysOps Associate desired.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of Sybase ASE and Sybase Rep Servers/Rep Agents.
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Quest Foglight for SQL Server and/or Sybase/PostgreSQL monitoring.
  • Experience in championing change and effectively managing project/program implementation.
