About the position

As a Database Administrator (DBA) at GDIT, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of our nation by applying the latest technology and providing operational support to deliver actionable intelligence for the Intelligence Community. In this position, you will be responsible for executing several critically important database tasks in support of an OLAP repository. You will need to have documented experience managing and understanding database best practices and data modeling techniques. Your expertise in data design, enterprise data, reporting, visualization, and overall data architecture concepts will be essential. It is highly desired that you have a background in creating and managing complex ETL packages to extract data from various sources and load it into a first-class data warehouse. To succeed in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work experience. With over 8 years of experience, you will bring extensive knowledge of database management systems, particularly Oracle and PostgreSQL, and be familiar with serverless frameworks. You will also be responsible for creating data mapping documents, data dictionaries, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs), as well as improving application, schema, and data design to meet demanding enterprise data solutions. Your skills in DB schema design, PL/SQL, SQL programming, and knowledge of visualization tools will be critical in supporting the organization’s data needs.

Responsibilities

  • Execute critically important database tasks in support of an OLAP repository.
  • Manage and understand database best practices and data modeling techniques.
  • Create and manage complex ETL packages to extract data from various sources and load it into a data warehouse.
  • Develop data mapping documents, data dictionaries, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Improve application, schema, and data design to meet enterprise data solutions.
  • Support and troubleshoot RDBMS platforms in a Windows environment.
  • Create and maintain data catalogs or data marts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of related experience in database management.
  • Extensive experience with database management systems (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Familiarity with serverless frameworks (Lambda, Step Functions).
  • Documented experience in data warehouse design and dimensional modeling.
  • Excellent skills in DB schema design and PL/SQL/SQL programming.
  • Knowledge of visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Experience with Agile practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Documented experience with DevOps/Platforms: Amazon Web Services (S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, CloudFormation, etc.).
  • Python development experience.
  • Experience with database management in support of IBM Cognos Framework Manager, Reports Studio, and Query Studio.
