About the position

As a Database Administrator specializing in cloud-based Oracle systems at Booz Allen, you will play a crucial role in managing and securing database technology that supports our nation's veterans. Your technical expertise combined with your people skills will make you an invaluable team member, solving complex problems and ensuring the integrity of our database systems. You will be responsible for analyzing the design, development, and delivery of data solutions, which includes architecture design, prototyping concepts, and developing standards and test plans. Your role will also involve debugging data solutions and implementing designs that adhere to efficient design techniques, ensuring that the final solutions meet organizational needs. In this position, you will assist with the planning and engineering of the organization's databases, monitoring performance, scalability, and security. You will evaluate existing database designs to determine necessary updates and integration requirements for new designs. Your work will provide peace of mind to clients as you analyze policies and procedures to ensure database security and integrity. Utilizing tools such as OEM, CloudWatch, and Dynatrace, you will identify problem areas and opportunities for improvement in mission-critical databases. Your contributions will directly impact the Department of Veterans Affairs by modernizing benefits systems. Responsibilities

  • Analyze the design, development, and delivery of data solutions.
  • Assist with the planning and engineering of the organization's databases.
  • Monitor performance, scalability, and security of database systems.
  • Evaluate existing database designs for necessary updates and integration requirements.
  • Ensure final solutions meet organizational needs and security standards.
  • Utilize tools like OEM, CloudWatch, and Dynatrace to identify problem areas.
  • Debug data solutions and implement efficient design techniques.
  • Mentor team members and support their technical growth.

Requirements

  • Experience with installation, maintenance, and administration of Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or RDBMS variants.
  • Experience supporting Linux systems engineering efforts in system design and evaluation, solution engineering, software development, or system administration.
  • Experience configuring, integrating, and securing AWS cloud-native database offerings such as RDS.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies or the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to design and develop complex SQL/PL SQL queries and reports to retrieve required data.
  • Ability to analyze and tune queries to improve performance.
  • Public Trust clearance and a high school diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Database Schema as Code tools.
  • Experience with database partitioning and microservices.
  • Knowledge of Liquibase source control tools.
  • Knowledge of security scanning tools and working with teams to fix vulnerabilities.
  • Ability to perform code reviews on SQL change sets and work with developers to create and enforce best practices.
