About the position

The Database Administrator at Guarantee Trust Life Insurance is responsible for the maintenance and optimization of the database environment. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems to ensure their performance, availability, and security. The position is part of the IT Engineering team, focusing on troubleshooting database-related issues and supporting enterprise applications and systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain databases for the organization.
• Monitor and optimize the performance of the databases, including queries, indexes, and storage.
• Manage backup and recovery processes to prevent data loss and ensure data integrity.
• Implement and maintain database security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.
• Diagnose and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure the smooth operation of enterprise applications.
• Work closely with developers, system engineers, and other stakeholders to understand business operations.
• Participate in an on-call rotation of Tier 3 support.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Database Engineer, Database Administrator, or a similar role.
• Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL).
• Strong understanding of database architecture.
• Experience with database management systems.
• Knowledge of database security best practices.
• Experience with database backup and recovery strategies.
• Familiarity with database performance tuning and optimization techniques.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Certifications or experience in LifePRO, OnBase, PeopleSoft, or Smart Communications.
• Experience with workload automation tools such as ActiveBatch.
• Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Experience with programming or scripting languages.
• Experience with cloud-based solutions and services.
