About the position

The SQL Server DBA plays an important role that is responsible for managing, maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting our database infrastructure both On-Premises and in the Cloud. The primary responsibility of the DBA is to manage the daily operations for MS SQL Server database technologies in medium to large-sized environments providing direct operational support. Essential to the success of this role are skills related to SQL Server, Azure SQL (IaaS/PaaS/DBaaS), cloud migration, database security, vulnerability management, HADR, and performance tuning. Automation techniques using PowerShell or Python scripting are highly desirable. Oracle Cloud and Oracle administration is considered a strong asset. Participation in a rotating on-call schedule is required. Excellent written and interpersonal skills are desirable to build relationships with internal clients at various levels. While your role is technical in nature, you will be called upon as an active member to provide guidance and make decisions alongside business-minded individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Instance/database management including installation/patching, upgrades, configuration and deployment, capacity planning, monitoring server health/performance, performance tuning and monitoring, backup, restore and recovery, and HADR.
  • Provide leadership when working directly with Project Managers, developers, application teams, customers and peers who require operational support or project implementation.
  • Implement Service Management best-practices in accordance with ITIL v3 Foundation framework as it relates to the Service Lifecycle (Change/Incident/Problem Management). Active participant in Change Advisory Board (CAB) review for successful deployment of Change Requests (CR's).
  • Assist developers with performance tuning and efficient database design.
  • Take initiative to improve performance/efficiency of the database assurance operation.
  • Architect customized solutions, scripting for automation, database security and auditing.
  • Strategic planning in-line with long term architectural goals including forecasting, design, planning and implementation.
  • Cross-training of DBA team and creating procedure documentation when appropriate.
  • Ability to perform effectively and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain attention to detail striving for quality of work with successful results.
  • 24x7 on-call rotation alongside our 3rd-party after-hours DBA services provider.
