The Database Administrator position involves a range of responsibilities centered around the management and optimization of database environments. The role requires a strong focus on planning, documenting, and executing upgrades and migrations, as well as setting up new database environments to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The successful candidate will be tasked with developing moderate to complex SQL statements for data migration, which is a critical aspect of the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process. This position also entails providing support to Application Developers by assisting in the design, implementation, and testing of database changes that are necessary to support various business applications. In addition to these responsibilities, the Database Administrator will work closely with Application Developers to code efficient SQL statements, review existing SQL for performance issues, and make recommendations for indexing strategies to enhance database performance. The role requires the design and planning of upgrade strategies, which includes coordinating with system administrators and developers to ensure a smooth transition. The upgrade plans must be comprehensive, including checklists, milestones, complete checkouts, and fallback procedures to mitigate any potential issues during the upgrade process. Furthermore, the Database Administrator will assist other DBAs in maintaining multiple DB2 LUW environments, which include Development, QA, Training, and Production. This collaborative effort is essential for ensuring that all environments are functioning optimally and that any issues are addressed promptly. The role also involves supporting Database Administrators and Systems Administrators during the patching of operating systems and database systems, ensuring that all systems are up-to-date and secure.
