About the position

The Database Administrator plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of SQL databases and business intelligence applications. This position is responsible for ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of data, while also supporting advanced data analytics and machine learning initiatives. The DBA will handle data modeling, performance optimization, integrity checks, and security measures, as well as troubleshoot user issues and manage database backup and restore planning.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust database architectures that meet business requirements.
  • Develop and implement processes for cleaning, organizing, and transforming data from various sources.
  • Identify and rectify data quality issues, including duplicates, missing values, and inconsistencies.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and security of databases.
  • Optimize database performance through regular monitoring, tuning, and maintenance activities.
  • Manage database security, including user access and permissions.
  • Develop and implement automated processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL).
  • Create scripts and tools to automate routine database maintenance tasks.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve database management processes to increase efficiency.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Research, IT, and software development.
  • Refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model.
  • Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act, HIPAA.
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Master's degree in a related field is a plus.
  • Certifications in database management or related technologies are a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with major database systems (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator with a focus on data cleanup, transformation, architecture, and automation.
  • Experience with ETL tools and processes.
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and tools (e.g., Python, R, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and big data technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with cloud database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL) is a plus.
