About the position

As a senior member of a skilled database administrator team, you will play a crucial role in the migration, maintenance, update, and support of various database platforms including Snowflake, Fivetran HVR Replication Tool, DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, AWS RDS, Redis, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, and Data Migration Service (DMS). This position requires a strong focus on production on-call support, maintenance, and off-hour deployments, ensuring the health and well-being of the database environments. You will be responsible for maintaining a Snowflake data warehouse and managing data replication from various sources, which includes production deployments via a dev/ops procedure. Your responsibilities will also encompass setting up and maintaining security and access for production environments, as well as development tasks such as data modeling, schema design, and the creation of database objects like tables, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and jobs. You will be expected to identify, assess, and evaluate technologies, products, and tools for building enterprise architecture services, and analyze archiving approaches to propose and implement solutions. In addition, you will review and revise existing tables and indexing strategies to enhance storage efficiency and access, provide performance tuning assistance on all data pulls and queries, and work closely with end-users to resolve issues. Your role will involve assisting programmers during development by answering questions and providing guidance, as well as analyzing problems and proposing solutions to meet architectural challenges. Participation in unit, system, user, and performance testing will also be part of your responsibilities, along with user-level familiarity with version control tools and the installation and maintenance of database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a Snowflake data warehouse and manage data replication from various sources.
  • Set up and maintain security and access for production environments.
  • Develop data models and perform schema design and database object creation.
  • Identify, assess, and evaluate technologies for enterprise architecture services.
  • Analyze archiving approaches and assist in implementing chosen solutions.
  • Review and revise existing tables and indexing strategies to improve efficiency.
  • Provide performance tuning assistance on data pulls and queries.
  • Proactively identify issues and coordinate resolutions.
  • Assist programmers during development by providing guidance and support.
  • Analyze problems and propose solutions to meet architectural challenges.
  • Participate in unit, system, user, and performance testing.
  • Familiarity with version control tools and installation, maintenance, and on-call support.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on database experience with DB2/UDB and SQL Server.
  • Working experience in setup, integration, and security with SaaS applications.
  • Knowledge and ideally working experience with data lake and data modeling on Snowflake, AWS S3, and Glue.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS RDS, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, and Redis databases.
  • Understanding of proper indexing and experience with query tuning.
  • Knowledge of DB2 and UDB/AIX utilities such as backup, reorg, runstats, and rebind.
  • Knowledge of Oracle and MS SQL Server reorg and update stats.
  • Experience with AWS DMS.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience using a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology.
  • Ability to analyze existing configurations and recommend improvements.
  • Self-motivated, task-oriented, and capable of working independently on multiple projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the Property and Casualty Insurance industry.
  • Prior experience migrating databases from on-premise data centers to the cloud.
  • Knowledge of replication.
