The Database Administrator (DBA) at Villanova University is tasked with the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of Oracle databases specifically within the Ellucian Banner ERP system. In this role, the DBA will be responsible for maintaining Oracle-based database systems, primarily related to the Ellucian Banner ERP and its associated products. They will serve as a technical expert for troubleshooting issues and problem resolution, escalating functional, technical, and organizational issues as necessary. The DBA will create and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including standards and policies. Routine database administration tasks will include performing backups, restores, patches, and security updates, as well as monitoring and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the Banner ERP and related applications. This includes identifying and resolving issues proactively, managing user access and permissions, and ensuring data security and integrity. Technical support and troubleshooting are also key components of this position. The DBA will provide technical support for Ellucian Banner applications and database-related issues, collaborating with stakeholders, developers, and operations teams to resolve complex problems. They will diagnose and address database performance issues, ERP application challenges, and other technical difficulties, while also assisting with various projects as assigned. The DBA must possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical personnel across the organization, adapting their communication style to suit different audiences.
