About the position

As a Database Administrator at Global Payments, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing SQL Server databases to ensure high performance and availability. You will be responsible for configuring and maintaining database servers and processes, monitoring system health and performance, and ensuring the security and sustainability of our database environments. Your expertise will be essential in analyzing, solving, and correcting issues in real-time, providing suggestions for solutions, and refining and automating regular processes. You will also assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement, ensuring that our databases operate efficiently and effectively. In this role, you will provide 24x7 support for critical production systems, performing scheduled maintenance and supporting release deployment activities after hours. Your contributions will not only enhance the technical capabilities of our team but also enrich the company culture as you participate in collaborative efforts and share your knowledge with colleagues. Responsibilities

  • Manage SQL Server databases
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an SQL Developer or Database Developer, working with complex databases
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in IT, computer science or related field is preferred (work experience may be used in place of a degree)
  • Experience with Windows and MSSQL system administration
  • Understanding of networking concepts
  • An ongoing thirst for new knowledge, ideas, and a passion for success
  • Experience working with distributed teams
  • Creative problem-solving, proficient debugging and profiling
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud computing providers
  • MongoDB administration
  • Postgres DB; mysql administration
  • Experience with continuous deployment in a high availability environment
